I'm so excited about the Seattle event! I wasn't able to attend last
time because I was getting my revision from Band to Bypass surgery at
the time. I'm now down a total of 151 lbs! I recently had some plastic
surgery and can't wait to see everyone and tell all of you all the
details of what's been going on since band removal. Come by and visit
me at my vendor table! ..aLighterMe
Unfortunately not all has been good news. I was just released from the
hospital yesterday after having surgery on my esophagus. I used to
have a Band that was placed back in 2002. I lost a little over 100
lbs. but started having trouble. I had pain, reflux and esophageal
spasms. Then I started experiencing weight gain too! My surgeon told
me that my Band was fine, nothing was wrong with it, that it was me
that was the problem. Things got worse and worse.
After communication between me and my surgeon stopped, I got a new
surgeon. My new surgeon did some tests and suspected that my band was
incorrectly placed. It was decided that I would have my band removed
and convert to a RnY Gastric Bypass. My surgery took almost 4 hours.
My surgeon had to remove my band that was imbedded in scar tissue and
had been placed ON my esophagus. I was also told that the band used
was WAY too small for my anatomy!
That was 2 years ago and I still have problems with my esophagus! A
couple of weeks after having my plastic surgery, I started vomiting
all the time! I went to see my family doc and she referred me to a GI
doc. The GI doc did some tests and found that my esophagus wasn't
working and the valve at the bottom was not opening and closing
properly, so I needed surgery.
I was sent to the surgeon and my surgery was performed just this past
Wednesday. After surgery he told me that he had to remove a lot of
scar tissue from my esophagus and I should be much better now. I
haven't vomited since my surgery! I have to do liquids for 2 weeks and
slowly move to solids. It's pretty much the same post op diet as after
my gastric bypass.
I guess the moral of this story is to make sure you pick a doctor that
knows how to place a band correctly and how to choose the correct size
of the band!
I hope those of you that are struggling and/or have gained weight will
come. Don't be ashamed YOU ARE NOT ALONE! Join us and we can help you.
Many of us have been right where you are and understand!

I am not sure about weight loss after the surgery, but do you still see an endocrinologist. Is it possible that some of your other levels are off. I have gained 90 pounds from my normal weight. _________________ We must be the change we want to see |
